Brief Write-up on the Programme

The Literary Club of JSS College for Women (Autonomous), Saraswathipuram, Mysuru, organized a workshop titled “Exploring Elizabethan Theatre through Shakespearean Play” on 25 January 2025 (Friday) at the Navjyothi Auditorium, JSSCW. The workshop aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Shakespearean drama and its theatrical traditions. The programme was inaugurated by the resource person Smt. Brunda R., Head, Department of English, MMK and SDM Mahila Vidyalaya, Mysuru. She delivered an insightful lecture on the history of drama, the Elizabethan age of literature, Shakespeare’s contribution to drama, and the influence of Aristotelian principles on his plays. The session helped students understand key dramatic concepts such as tragedy, comedy, history, romance, peripeteia, anagnorisis, hamartia, and catharsis.

Following the lecture, Ms. Vani Hemanth, Assistant Professor, conducted a session on dramatic monologue and soliloquy. Students from SDM College enacted the sleep- walking scene of Lady Macbeth and the dagger scene from Macbeth, enabling the audience to clearly distinguish between the two dramatic forms. Subsequently, Ms. Ujwala Shetty, Assistant Professor, led a scene interpretation and dramatic reading session from The Merchant of Venice, with students presenting selected scenes in an engaging and impactful manner. The workshop concluded with interactive activities, including a literary quiz, making the session lively and enriching. Overall, the workshop was highly informative and beneficial, fostering a deeper appreciation of Shakespearean drama and enhancing students’ literary and performance skills.

Brief Write-up on the Programme

A One- Day workshop was organized under the banner of Literary Club on “Language in our Constitution” by the Department of English, JSS College for Women (Autonomous), Saraswathipuram, Mysuru, on 3rd February, 2026. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Shakira Jabeen. B, Associate Professor (Retd.) Department of English, Nehru Memorial College, Sullia, who addressed students on the richness and diversity of Indian Languages and their constitutional status. She highlighted that India has more than 1652 recorded languages, making it one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world. She explained how languages in India change every few miles, reflecting cultural and regional diversity, she also advised students to make use of library. She motivated students to become independent.

Dr, Rechanna, Principal, Smt. Vasumathi. P, Head, Department of English and faculty of the department were present. Invocation was rendered by Ms. Anagha I B.Sc, Ms. Fanny Catharine, I BA welcomed the gathering. Ms. Ginnisri, I BA, proposed vote of thanks.

An awareness program on “Legal Dimensions of Social Evils with special reference to Dowry Prohibition” was organized by the Women Empowerment Cell of JSS College for Women (Autonomous), Saraswathipuram, Mysuru on 11th February 2026. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. N. Vani Shree, Principal, JSS Law College, Mysuru. She addressed the students about the root causes and social impact of major issues affecting women and girls such as dowry practices, illegal adoption, gender inequality, prostitution, and sexual assault.

The program aimed to educate students about legal rights and responsibilities, promote critical thinking, and encourage collective responsibility in building a just and equitable society. The event was attended by the Principal, conveners, faculty members, and students, and concluded with a vote of thanks.
